Museum Musik Indonesia or Indonesian Music Museum launched its official website www.museummusikindonesia.org on Friday, March 17, 2017. Damon Koeswoyo posted in his Facebook wall:

Damon is part of the second generation musicians of the Koeswoyo family, one of the most influential name in Indonesian music development.  A multi-instrumentalist in his own right, Damon has worked with many prominent musicians in Indonesia and released albums with his bands Kidnap Katrina and Junior – just to name a few.

Museum Musik Indonesia or MMI was founded as Galeri Malang Bernyanyi in 2009 by Pongki Pamungkas and Hengki Herwanto. Located in Malang, East Java, it comprised 200 cassette tapes and vinyls as its initial collection. It aims to preserve Indonesian and international records, music books, magazines, etc.

In 2015, It dropped its name and turned into Museum Musik Indonesia, a name that was previously registered by Eddy Herwani, who later donated it to Pongki and Hengki.

In 2016 Museum Musik Indonesia Foundation was established with foundation board comprised of Hengki Herwanto as chairman, Ciciel Sri Rejeki as secretary and Aditya Mohammad as treasurer. Pongki Pamungkas as founder and Bens Leo as supervisor.

As a museum, MMI was officially opened in 2016, located in Gedung Kesenian Gajayana, Jl. Nusa Kambangan 19 Malang.

By 2017 the collection consisted of some 22,000 objects.
