West Java is one of the ska music epicenter in Indonesia. Bands such as Noin Bullet, Don Lego, Bandung Ini Kami, et cetera, were sort of famous names who heat the ska music development in Indonesia.
A newcomer in West Java ska music world, The Brain Roger was formed in Sukabumi on February 28, 2016 by former Spilled Country’s guitarist Rinaldy who met drummer Dio from Outflow. Both musicians were still in high school when joined force to set up the band.
They recruited another MAN 4 Sukabumi schoolmates frontman Panca Wijaya and Farhan Ahong as the band bass player. Another Outflow’s member Rian Tompel stepped in replacing Farhan, who altered position into rhythm guitar player.
The Brain Roger entered Mesin Suara Studio to record their first single 11 Hari in April 2016, a ska punk tune written by Dio.
Founder/guitarist Rinaldy told www.Musik.or.id about the band’s name origin. They mixed words “brain” and “roger” to explain the members affirmation in uniting any different ideas. “Roger” is a radio telecommunication procedure word for “received and understood”.
Rinaldy mentioned two local Sukabumi ska bands The Suitcase Bandits and Street Sangster who inspired them to create Brain Roger. Thank to them, the ska music is revived in Sukabumi. He said the band current project is working on their first EP. Rinaldy cited sharing the stage with Indonesian prominent ska/reggae famed Steven Jam in “Road to Satu Dekade Pribumi” on November 13, 2016 was their best experience ever.
The Brain Roger released their second single Ska Together on February 10, 2017.
