Jayapura Rock Community presents A Tribute to Bullet for My Valentine

Jayapura Rock Community will hold this year’s first rock concert in Papua Province on Sunday, February 5, 2017. The gig which is a tribute to UK’s heavy metal act Bullet for My Valentine will take place at Abepura Hypermart starting from 7 PM to 9:30 PM IEST (Indonesia Eastern Standard Time).

Two Jayapura heavy metal project bands DEADKILL and DEADSWORD are scheduled to headline the show and will share the stage with another 6 rock/metal acts.

DEADSWORD’s guitarist Yohanes Wermasubun a.k.a Jacko Arise had an interview with www.Musik.or.id, told about the show and rock/metal music development in Jayapura. Papua is predominantly a reggae music market, and rock/metal are poorly represented since lack of musicians and music promoters to promote the genres.

Jacko who studied at ISI Jogja for a year, joined force with some colleagues to form a community whose aims  to create more events and gatherings for the rock/metal music enthusiast in Jayapura in 2012. The society was named Jayapura Rock Community (JRC). He stated there are more musicians who play music like classic rock compares to metal in Jayapura. But, if the JRC could set up a platform for youngsters to cut their teeth, then metal music would be developing.

He claimed A Tribute to Bullet for My Valentine is the first of its kind in Papua, and hoping it will be followed by more similar events in the future.
