Profile: SACRIFICE IN VAIN

SACRIFICE IN VAIN is a post hardcore/metalcore act from Lhokseumawe. The group was formed in November 2010 by bassist Derry, previously member of alternative punk act NOT FOR KIDZ; and two former INSOMNIA’s members, Vocalist/guitarist Tasnil and drummer Andrea. Derry added his former band mate guitarist Wanda to the newborn SACRIFICE IN VAIN‘s first line-up. All of them were students of Malikussaleh University.

Gilang, a synthesizer player was recruited. The band started as a cover band and wandering from one gig to another in Lhokseumawe music scene. Guitarist Wanda cited Bring Me the Horizon, The Word Alive, Texas in July, Memphis May Fire, Blessthefall and some other metalcore bands as their main influence. The band began writing their own song almost immediately and enrolled in some gigs outside Lhokseumawe.

2011 saw a significant change in the band original line-up. Andrea gave up his drumming position and switched into bass/vocal section. Tasnil concentrated in singing and Derry swapped into guitar. SACRIFICE IN VAIN made an audition for drummer position, and a freelance drummer Reza was chosen and listed as a new permanent member.

The new line-up then entered Noisecorp studio and starting to record their debut-album materials. Yet they have recorded 6 songs. Guitarist Wanda admits the band suffers as album progress runs behind schedule. He blames the member’s pretty tight schedule outside the band as their biggest obstacle.

“Tasnil is working, Reza is still in high school. Me and other band mates are  working hard finishing our studies,” said Wanda. But he believes the upcoming debut album will be released in 2014.

He added,”We produce it by our self. Derry is the man behind the concept. He’s in charge for basic writing for all of our songs.”

Gilang left the band in 2013 and was replaced by Alwi. Wanda commented about the departure,”I think he considered musically unfulfilled with us. But we still have a good relationship with him.”

SACRIFICE IN VAIN  is a member of Party Crew, who owns We Do A Party gigs franchise.
