Makassar’s hardcore punk scene Rotterdam Hardcrew presents Satu Suara #2
Makassar has one of the most strong and influential hardcore/punk scenes movements in Indonesia, although the city and culture are more conservative in nature.
Years ago many scenes strove to maintain their existences by operating small gigs, but not today, since the authority limits and restrains event permits for many hardcore/punk gigs. It is rare hardcore/punks event happens in Makassar these days even though the city has many scenes such as Hamzy Chaos, BTP Chaos, Antang Rebellions, Wild Punx Kolektiva, Trotoar13, Barawaja Street Punk, Malbas Riot Zone, Daya Punk Society, Bung Street Punk, Canal Street Rebellions, Rotterdam Hardcrew, Rooster East Familia, Ablam, Kandea Street Punk, to name a few.
Muhammad Nur Cahya from Ceker Ayam Zine told Musik.or.id this situation was caused by “posers” in shape of some “gang motor” in Makassar, who wear punk outfit and making commotions in many punk gigs. Their riot acts led Police to be suspicious of any punk events. Nur Cahya, guitarist of crustgrind band Bentrox added his band “only play” 5 times so far this year.
Today, Bentrox will play in a hardcore punk gig entitled Satu Suara #2, Sunday, August 27, 2017 at Gedung Veteran Makassar, along with 14 other bands.
The second installment of Satu Suara is organized by Rotterdam Hardcrew, a hardcore punk scene established in 2014. The first edition was held in April 2016, hosted Makassar-date of Distort Celebes Tour 2016, a tour conducted by Bandung-based hardcore act Kontrasosial.
Bentrox will play with their new drummer Randy (Fisick Down) and bassist PMan (W.A.R.) who joined the band in March and May, respectively.
The band will give sneak peek of their new songs from upcoming third album. Previously the band has released two full-length albums Terror Bomb (2007) and Infeksi Kehidupan Kota (2016).
Bentrox was founded in 2005 2005 in Tamalanrea Makassar. Latest formation comprises Dodot (vocals), Altab (vocals), Cahyo (guitars), Randy (drums) and PMan (bass).
