Profile: Brutal Infection Records

Brutal Infection Records is a Jakarta-based independent record company focuses in death metal music and its sub-genres only. The label was founded in 2012 by Alfan Afero, a death metal vocalist and music enthusiast.

To date, it has released over forties physical releases with some big names in its roster such as Karnak, Corporation of Bleeding,  Rottenblast, Rottenomicon, Vision Decay, Dirty Infamous, and Warhammer, to name a few.

It began in 2011 when Alfan starting to sell licensed stickers in many music events and night bazaars. Since it was a good business, he renovated his garage and turned it into a small music merchandise store. His activities as music merchandiser and musician got him acquainted with some bands who wanted to publish their albums.

Then he thought it was a good time to start a music label as a new business venture. The first band he signed was Tangerang-based death metal act Karnak. They have known each other since 2011 and met in some gigs.

Karnak’s first EP Asimilasi Dasagatra became the first album released by the new-founded Brutal Infection Records.

Along with Karnak, the new label also released Jakarta-based death metal acts Before I Die‘s debut full-length album Evil Behavior; and another Jakarta’s death metaller Bray’s first EP Enemy of the Darkness. All three albums were released in December 2012.

The three albums paved the way for Alfan to attract more bands and more albums. In 2013, he published 8 physical releases consisted of 4 promotional CD’s, 3 EPs and 1 full-length album from seven bands. That year, Brutal Infection Records signed and launched CD’s of Decapitate Hatred, Critical Defacement, Plasmoptysis, Geggar Otak, Dead Criminal, Puregation, and Morvarium. Nganjuk-based Geggar Otak had its first album Avaricious Creature on December 27, 2013.

2014 saw an international deal to distribute in Indonesia 2008 album Grotesque Mastication of Putrid Innards of Philippine-based death metal act Human Mastication in cassette tape format. Alfan released four other albums in this format too.

In the very year, Brutal Infection published 4 promotional CD’s (Necropsy, Abhira, Hellhound, Livilium); and 2 full-length albums from Makassar’s Critical Defacement and Malang’s Hellhound. Livilium was a death metal duo consisted of Alfan Afero and guitarist Krisnanda Yusuf.

In 2015, the label published 16 physical releases from 8 bands, comprised 10 in CD format and 6 in cassette tape format. Rottenomicon and Abhira released their full-length albums R.A.P.B.N (Renunciation the Anatomic Perverse to Beheading the Nation) and Itihasa Purushartas, respectively.

Yogyakarta-based death metal act Warhammer released its first album Visual Antagonism in April 2016 through Brutal Infection Records, followed by Vision Decay from Tulangagung, East Java, who re-released its debut Perang Mesin Pembantaian. Critical Defacement had its second release with Alfan Afero, this time an EP titled Starting Slaughter, on June 5, 2016.

In September 2016, the label launched Consuming the Infinite Rancidity, the first studio album by Menstrual Disconsumed, a one-piece band from Jakarta.

In his interview with www.Musik.or.id, Alfan Afero revealed Brutal Infection Records will release three upcoming albums of Rottenemicon, Corporation of Bleeding and Karnak in 2017. Early this year, he has released two promotional CDs from Detritivor and Corporation Of Bleeding, both are death metal unit from Jakarta.

Alfan commenced a compilation album project in December 2016, comprises tracks from Brutal Infection’s artists and some other bands. The album is scheduled to release in April or May 2017.
